Finally understand what you’ve always heard
A shloka from childhood, a chant in yoga class, a verse on a temple wall. Anvaya helps you know what those words truly mean.
Now teaching Sanskrit
saṃskṛta — refined, perfected; that which is well put together.
What is Anvaya
Anvaya is an app for learning Sanskrit, the first of many Indian languages to come. Short, friendly lessons build your vocabulary and grammar step by step, in plain English, until you are ready to read real texts like the Bhagavad Gītā.
Start from zero. By the end you will be able to read a verse and know what each word is doing.
Connection; the natural order of words. Teachers have long explained a verse by putting it into its anvaya. We named the app after that idea.
Why Anvaya
Yoga. Karma. Mantra. Namaste. Whether you grew up with its prayers or met it on a yoga mat, Sanskrit is the language of the Gītā, the Upaniṣads and some of the most beautiful poetry ever written. Anvaya makes it feel close: not a school subject, but something that belongs to you.
A shloka from childhood, a chant in yoga class, a verse on a temple wall. Anvaya helps you know what those words truly mean.
Sanskrit often glues several words into one. Anvaya gently pulls them apart, one tap at a time, until a line that looked impossible reads simply.
Concepts arrive one at a time, each built on the last, so nothing ever feels like a wall of rules.
Every line comes with English letters beside the Devanagari, so you can start today and let them go when you’re ready.
How it works
Here is one line from the Bhagavad Gītā, taken apart the way you will learn to read with Anvaya. Tap the words in step 03 to explore them.
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
karmaṇy evādhikāras te mā phaleṣu kadācana — Bhagavad Gītā 2.47
Highlighted endings mark case. The dashed word is understood, not written. Tap any word to analyse it below.
Start with the verb, then its subject, then every other word.
“Your right is to action alone — never to its fruits.”
Anvaya takes you from your first letter to real verses, until their meaning is plainly yours.
